The Last LI'L ABNER?

It shouldn't exist. It's beyond the official end of the comic strip. But it does exist.

Joakim Gunnarsson's Senvenskonst ("Sequential Art") blog posts what may be the final ever LI'L ABNER Sunday page. A complete scan of what looks to be the original art is here.

But -- be warned -- it's pretty lackluster. The lines don't have their usual verve.

And the strange thing is that the original is dated November 27, 1977.

This is counter to the information at the Wikipedia entry that states the strip ended its run of 43 years some two weeks earlier, on November 13, 1977.

I don't think that the Sunday strip ever saw the light of print.

It could be that the there were a couple of Sundays that were completed before the syndicate pulled the plug. Wikipedia could, of course, be wrong on the date. Not sure what the deal is. One thing: Capp's 1970s assistants were nowhere near as good as famous ghost Frank Frazetta was.
